The main things I learned are that: (1) LC algo Qs are helpful for introducing programming to novices but doesn’t directly translate to tangible SWE skills esp when working on a large codebase, and (2) the SWE role is far from simply coding as it requires fleshing your engineering ability in designing a scalable system/product for a diverse set of users (at least for my team at MSFT). I learned a lot and while I didn’t get a ton of feedback during the internship, I felt appreciated by the end. This is an excellent opportunity to take something on that has nothing to do with engineering without the stress of feeling like you have something else you need to work on.
